Bilalaga Masjid

Bilal Aga Masjid, located in the Maraş region within the borders of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), was reopened for worship on 20 July 2021 after the restoration carried out by the Cyprus Foundations Administration (EVKAF).
According to EVKAF records, the Bilal Aga Foundation was established on 14 February 1821. In addition to the masjid, there are also places that are used as an exhibition area and cafeteria today within the land belonging to the Bilal Aga Foundation in the Maraş region.
According to the document dated 8 November 1902, the fountain located to the west of the masjid and built with cut stones was built in 1891.
The marble inscription on the upper part of the main entrance door leading to the harim of the masjid also states that the masjid was built by Bilal Aga.
It is known that Bilal Aga Foundation is one of the three foundations established in the Ottoman period (the other two foundations are Lala Mustafa Pasha Foundations and Abdullah Pasha Foundation).

TİKA's Contributions

Within the scope of the project carried out in 2024, a cafeteria was planned to be built in the room on the side of the Masjid and in the inner courtyard where that room opens. In the converted spaces, the necessary kitchen equipment for the cafeteria kitchen and tables and chairs to be placed in the courtyard were provided.
