Incirli Cave

İncirli Cave, named after a fig tree at the entrance of the cave, is located within the borders of Çınarlı Village. The formation age of the gypsum layer forming the cave is estimated to be 5 million years. The formation of the cave is estimated to have a history of 150-200 thousand years.  There are fascinating stalactites and stalagmites inside. These stalactites and stalagmites are composed of gypsum (gypsum in its crystalline watery form, a soft and crystalline mineral with a chemical composition of calcium sulphate). While the rough stalactites hang from the ceiling, the smooth stalagmites rise from the ground. The total length of the cave is 311 metres and today only 70 metres of it is illuminated and open to visitors. The inside of the cave has a natural air conditioning coolness and it feels hot in winter and cool in summer due to its constant temperature of 18-19 degrees throughout the year.

TİKA's Contributions

Within the project started in 2021, a total of 71 metres long walking path consisting of  aluminium platform, handrail and stairs was constructed in İncirli Cave. It is aimed to reduce human-induced deformation in cave by creating a safe walking path within the cave.
