The Kızıl Bath

The Red Bath is one of the three Ottoman baths in Famagusta. It is located northwest of the Akkule entrance. Only foundation remains have survived to the present day. Different sections of the bath can be determined by following the foundation remains. Of the three baths that were built and whose remains have been found, the Red Bath has the fewest traces left. The bath is located in the west and highest part of the old city. It is thought that the wall and dome stones of the bath, which were destroyed by earthquakes, together with the channel stones, may have been used in the repair of the city walls, as in the other ruins.

TİKA's Contributions

Within the scope of the project carried out in 2024, firstly the area where the bathhouse floor is located was cleaned under the supervision of the Department of Relics and Museums, then the bath was scanned in 3D with a scanner and the survey drawings prepared. The bathhouse ruins were photographed with a drone and a professional camera, the resulting data was processed, the sketch of the work was drawn as realistically as possible in light of the obtained data and this information was displayed on a sign at the place where the bath was located.
