New Mosque

The New Mosque is a mosque located in the Walled City of Lefkoşa. It gives its name to the Yenicami Neighborhood in which it is located. The current mosque was completed in 1898-1899, and the old mosque next to it, whose ruins have survived to the present day, was converted from a church. The minaret of the mosque was renovated in 1979 and the fountain in 2003 to reflect its original architectural features.
The mosque structure with its L-shaped last congregation place built around the rectangular prayer hall, reveals an architectural plan similar to other Ottoman mosques built on the Island in the 19th century. The mosque, which has a capacity of 350 people, attracts attention with its large courtyard and tombs in its garden.
Four mausoleums, including those of Menteşzade Hacı İsmail Ağa and the poet Hasan Hilmi Efendi, have survived to the present day."

In the project carried out in 2024, an exterior lighting system was installed in the mosque to increase its appearance especially at night.
